Meet Jim Ferraro
Jim discovered his love of art at age 9 when he began doing pencil drawings at his home in Rutherford, NJ. After proving his dedication with years of black and white pencil work, his father took notice of his talent and gave James his first set of pastels. After decades of working with ink, watercolors, and even airbrushing, he’s found his way back to pastels and oils since retiring in 2019.
Jim moved to Pennsylvania in 1981 and was the owner of two local businesses in Milford, PA. After a back injury, he began painting custom vanity plates for vehicles at one of the automotive businesses he owned, as well as custom truck tailgates and motorcycles. Before retiring in 2018, he started painting in watercolors and using pastels again. His current work primarily features wildlife and landscapes, but his specialty, and true love, are pet portraits.
Since retiring he has been fulfilling a life-long dream in his artwork. Throughout his life, he has always had a dog, or two, at his side and he has a unique way of capturing a pet’s expression in his portraits. In 2020, he started Jim Ferraro’s Pet Portraits, where pet owners across the country are commissioning him to create pastels or watercolor pieces of their beloved pets.
Jim’s work has been on display in local restaurants in and around the Milford, PA area. He has won several awards and was featured in an article of Airbrush Technique Magazine. He was also recently was nominated for an All-Time Best Painting Award on the FanArtReview website. He is a proud father, and grandfather, and finds his inspiration from his family, nature, and his dog Winchester.
